No, I don’t have plug-in mania… I just haven’t found a Spell Check for WordPress that I actually like yet… I can’t stand the Visual Editor, I refuse to use it, and spell checking options become severely restricted if you don’t… So here it is, based on Amir Salihefendic’s GoogieSpell, GöSPell. Now your readers can even check the spelling in their comments (if you let them…)
GöSPress is a spellcheck plug-in for WordPress built around Googie Spell developed by Amir Salihefendic.
GöSPress delivers spellcheck to those who prefer not to use the Visual Editor, along with the ability to allow spell check for reader commenting, the selection of available language dictionaries, and limited ability to customize the appearance.
- WordPress 2.0 or greater
- Unzip and upload the “goospress” directory into your WordPress plugins directory (/wp-content/plugins).
- Activate the GöSPress plugin from the WordPress Manage Plugins admin panel.
- Navigate to Options > GöSPress and select the pages that spell check should be added to and the languages to display in the pop-up menu (defaults to english if none are selected). Update Options
2.1a r004 (05 MAY 2007)
- ETC ETC - No more tags in svn. Changed the update dl link to point to the wp.org.
2.1a r003 (05 MAY 2007)
- BUG FIX - Changed directory name from ‘wp-goospress’ to ‘goospress’ since that is the folder created when unzipping the download from the Wordpress site.
2.1a r002 (04 MAY 2007)
- BUG FIX - Comment form spell checker now abides by language rules set in options panel.
- ETC ETC - I fixed numerous spelling errors randomly strewn throughout.
2.1a r001 :: May 1, 2007
- Initial Alpha Release — ONLY TESTED WITH WORDPRESS 2.1 — TESTING UNDER 1.5 and 2.0 WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
- The Spell Check in WP’s Visual Editor takes precedence over this plug-in… Thus, if you use the Visual Editor, it ain’t for you!
- More CSS work to be done such that it “looks nicer” on the page… The “streamlined” AJS.js library isn’t making it any easier :P

I’m using Wordpress 2.2.1 running on a Windows 2003 server with IIS 6 and GöSPress doesn’t work. The icon just spins and nothing happens until you try to leave the page and a error pops up, “An error was encountered on the server. Please try again later.”
I am using this plugin on 5 different sites running several different versions of WP and it works great on all of them. Thank you so much for this plugin. It is awesome. :-)
